President-elect Donald Trump announced on Monday the nomination of former Congressman Sean Duffy of Wisconsin to serve as the U.S. Secretary of Transportation.

Duffy, who most recently served as a Fox News contributor and co-host of FOX Business Network’s The Bottom Line, brings extensive public service experience to the role.

Rep. Sean Duffy speaks during a President Donald J. Trump’s Make America Great Again Rally on Saturday, April 27, 2019, at the Resch Center in Green Bay, Wis.

“Sean has been a tremendous and well-liked public servant, starting his career as a District Attorney for Ashland, Wisconsin, and later elected to the U.S. House of Representatives for Wisconsin’s 7th Congressional District,” Trump said in a statement.

“Sean will use his experience and the relationships he has built over many years in Congress to maintain and rebuild our nation’s infrastructure and fulfill our mission of ushering in the golden age of travel, focusing on safety, efficiency, and innovation. Importantly, he will greatly elevate the travel experience for all Americans!”

Following Trump’s announcement, Fox News Media confirmed Duffy’s departure. “Sean Duffy provided valuable insights and analysis in co-hosting the FOX Business Network program The Bottom Line.

As Duffy departs Fox News Media effective today, we wish him the best of luck in his return to Washington,” a spokesperson said.

The network stated that the show will continue with co-host Dagen McDowell joined by rotating co-hosts.

As Secretary of Transportation, Duffy is expected to oversee critical infrastructure projects across the country and work to modernize the nation’s transportation systems.

Kevin M. Burke, President and CEO of Airports Council International–North America (ACI-NA), issued a statement congratulating Duffy on his nomination.

“With air travel continuing to see record highs, it is essential for Duffy and the new Congress to collaborate to secure and retain the funding necessary for airports to modernize their infrastructure and enhance service to travelers,” Burke said.

He emphasized the need for reducing regulatory burdens that delay airfield, terminal, and business development projects.

“Advancing new airport infrastructure projects will increase air service options, elevate the passenger experience, and drive economic growth in communities across America,” Burke added. “We look forward to working with Duffy and the incoming administration.”

Duffy served nearly nine years as a U.S. congressman representing Wisconsin’s Seventh Congressional District, the state’s largest.

During his tenure, he was a member of the Financial Services Committee and chaired the Sub-Committee on Insurance and Housing.

Prior to his time in Congress, Duffy was the District Attorney of Ashland County, Wisconsin, where he focused on prosecuting child sex crimes and combating internet exploitation.

Duffy recently contributed to coverage of the 2024 Republican National Convention, showcasing his continued engagement with conservative issues and public discourse.

Duffy is married to FOX & Friends Weekend co-host Rachel Campos-Duffy, whom he met on MTV’s The Real World.

The couple has nine children and co-authored All American Christmas in 2021, which became a New York Times bestseller.

Rachel Campos-Duffy and U.S. Rep Sean Duffy spoke Tuesday, Aug. 27, 2019, on “Fox and Friends” about the upcoming birth of their daughter and Duffy’s decision to resign his seat in Congress.

A graduate of St. Mary’s University, Duffy also holds a J.D. from William Mitchell College of Law.

His extensive legal, legislative, and media experience positions him as a key figure in advancing Trump’s transportation agenda.

As Duffy prepares to take on his new role, he faces the challenge of addressing the country’s infrastructure needs while fostering innovation and safety in the transportation sector.

The nomination signals the incoming administration’s intent to prioritize infrastructure modernization and efficient transportation systems.
