President-elect Donald Trump has appointed Susie Wiles as White House chief of staff, marking the first time a woman will serve in this influential role.
Wiles, who managed Trump’s 2024 campaign, is credited with leading one of his most focused and effectively managed races, positioning her as the top candidate for the position.

Her low-profile yet highly strategic approach to the campaign was instrumental in achieving a decisive victory.
“Susie is tough, smart, innovative, and is universally admired and respected,” Trump said in a statement announcing the appointment. “Susie will continue to work tirelessly to Make America Great Again. It is a well-deserved honor to have Susie as the first-ever female Chief of Staff in United States history. I have no doubt that she will make our country proud.”

Wiles’s leadership style, particularly her ability to guide Trump without overstepping or directly challenging him, has been praised within and outside of Trump’s circle.

Her approach earned Trump’s trust and allowed her to temper some of his more impulsive decisions, a skill that few others have managed effectively.
Unlike many of her predecessors, Wiles preferred to remain out of the spotlight, declining to take the stage during Trump’s victory speech early Wednesday.
As chief of staff, Wiles will oversee critical functions within the White House, managing competing political and policy priorities, serving as the president’s gatekeeper, and facilitating communication within the administration.
The chief of staff plays a pivotal role in shaping the president’s daily schedule, advising on key issues, and helping execute the administration’s broader agenda.
Trump, who went through four chiefs of staff during his first term, has faced challenges in adjusting to the structured, gatekeeping aspect of the role.
Historian Chris Whipple, author of The Gatekeepers, which examines the role of White House chiefs of staff, emphasized the importance of the position. “At the end of the day, the most important thing is telling the president what he doesn’t want to hear,” Whipple explained, describing the chief of staff’s role in providing unfiltered guidance to the president.
Wiles has been a well-regarded strategist in Republican circles for years. Before her role in Trump’s 2024 campaign, she led his successful Florida campaigns in both 2016 and 2020.

She also managed Rick Scott’s campaign for governor of Florida in 2010 and briefly served as the manager of Jon Huntsman’s 2012 presidential campaign.
Following her appointment, co-campaign manager Chris LaCivita expressed his support on social media, posting on X: “So Happy and proud of one of the fiercest and most loyal warriors I’ve ever had the pleasure of working with!!!”

Wiles’s appointment as chief of staff reflects Trump’s confidence in her ability to navigate the demands of the White House while maintaining the focused strategy she demonstrated during the campaign.
As the first woman to take on this role, Wiles is expected to bring her disciplined approach to the highest office, shaping Trump’s return to the White House and overseeing efforts to implement his agenda in his second term.
