Kamala Harris faced widespread criticism on social media following her remarks on Wednesday, where she called for moving on from the “failed policies” that “we have proven don’t work.”

Vice President Kamala Harris makes remarks at a campaign rally on Friday September 20, 2024 at the Alliant Energy Center in Madison, Wis.

These comments were made during a speech on the economy at The Economic Club of Pittsburgh.

In her address, Harris highlighted her middle-class background and outlined several proposals aimed at strengthening the middle class, including plans to increase tax breaks for new small businesses and provide a $25,000 credit to first-time homebuyers.

“When the middle class is strong, America is strong. And we can build a stronger middle class,” Harris stated. “The American economy is the most powerful force for innovation and wealth creation in human history. We just need to move past the failed policies that we have proven don’t work. And like generations before us, let us be inspired by what is possible.”

However, Harris’s remarks about moving past failed policies quickly became a target for ridicule from conservative commentators on social media, many of whom pointed out the irony of such a statement coming from the sitting vice president.

Steve Cortes, a former advisor to the 2020 Trump campaign, quipped, “Acceptance is the first step.”

Several prominent conservative figures joined in the criticism.

Seth Dillon, CEO of Babylon Bee, a satirical news site, remarked, “Kamala Harris says we need to move past the failed policies that don’t work. She’s telling you to vote for Trump. Listen to her.”

LibsofTikTok, a well-known conservative commentator, added, “New Trump ad just dropped!”

Republican lawmakers also chimed in. Rep. Troy Nehls of Texas wrote, “You’re right. The American people are sick and tired of the Harris-Biden Administration’s failed policies. November can’t come soon enough!”

Podcaster Stephen L. Miller noted, “Quite the optics today as Harris is out saying we need to move past failed policies while the old man is on The View saying he delegated everything to her in his administration.”

During her speech, Harris also took aim at her 2024 presidential opponent, former President Donald Trump, calling him “one of the biggest losers ever,” echoing a comment made by President Biden earlier in the day on The View.

Harris continues to trail Trump in key polling on issues like the economy and inflation, which remain top concerns for voters.

In recent weeks, Kamala has increasingly focused on economic issues in her public addresses as she attempts to narrow the gap between her and Trump in the run-up to the 2024 election.
