Trump made the announcement on Truth Social on Sunday night, praising Bongino’s background in law enforcement and his dedication to the country.

“Great news for Law Enforcement and American Justice,” Trump wrote.

“Dan Bongino, a man of incredible love and passion for our Country, has just been named the next DEPUTY DIRECTOR OF THE FBI, by the man who will be the best ever Director, Kash Patel.”

Bongino, a former New York City police officer and U.S. Secret Service special agent, has been a prominent conservative commentator and podcast host in recent years.

Trump highlighted Bongino’s educational background, noting that he holds a Master’s Degree in Psychology from the City University of New York and an MBA from Penn State.

“He was a member of the New York Police Department (New York’s Finest!), a highly respected Special Agent with the United States Secret Service, and is now one of the most successful Podcasters in the Country, something he is willing and prepared to give up in order to serve,” Trump wrote.

“Working with our great new United States Attorney General, Pam Bondi, and Director Patel, Fairness, Justice, Law and Order will be brought back to America, and quickly. Congratulations Dan!”

Trump also acknowledged Bongino’s family, writing, “Another aspect of the life of Dan Bongino that I think is very important. He has a great wife, Paula, and two wonderful daughters who truly love their dad. What an incredible job Dan will do!!!”

Bongino, who previously hosted a show on Fox News, responded to the announcement on X, formerly known as Twitter, writing, “Thank you Mr. President, Attorney General Bondi, and Director Patel.”

His appointment follows Patel’s confirmation as FBI director on Friday. Patel was sworn in after a 51-49 Senate vote.

Patel, a former Trump administration official, played a key role in national security during Trump’s first term, serving as chief of staff to acting Defense Secretary Chris Miller, a senior advisor to the acting director of national intelligence, and a National Security Council official.

During his confirmation hearing last month, Patel addressed concerns about political retaliation, stating that he would not pursue retribution against agents involved in the classified documents case against Trump or other politically sensitive matters.

Patel has been a vocal critic of past investigations into Trump and was actively involved in challenging the results of the 2020 election.

His appointment comes at a time when the FBI’s leadership and personnel decisions are under heightened scrutiny.

With Patel now at the helm of the FBI and Bongino as his deputy, Trump has signaled a significant shift in the agency’s leadership as he continues to shape his administration’s approach to law enforcement and national security.
