Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC) has called for acts of civil disobedience in response to a series of executive orders signed by President Donald Trump since he took office on Monday.

These orders have addressed a wide range of issues, including immigration, border security, diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives, and what the administration describes as efforts to dismantle the “deep state.”

During one of her regular live-stream sessions, where she often discusses her vision for a socialist America, the New York Democrat explicitly encouraged non-compliance with these executive actions.

“One of the most simple things that we can do is just not comply,” AOC stated. She referenced several of these orders, particularly one aimed at ending birthright citizenship, which she argued contravenes the U.S. Constitution.

“For example, Donald Trump tried to sign an executive order to end birthright citizenship in this country, which is part of the Constitution,” she said.

She continued to articulate her stance, “It is, day one, already trying to shred the foundational documents of American society and try to end birthright citizenship, which basically, as we know, if you are born in the United States, you are a United States citizen. That remains. That is the law. That is the Constitution.”

AOC criticized the legality and seriousness of Trump’s actions, stating, “And he just tried to sign a piece of paper trying to say, no, we don’t have to listen to him. It’s illegal. We don’t have to treat this seriously. It’s a joke. And that’s not to say that what they’re trying to do isn’t serious. It is serious. But we should not consent in advance.”

This is not the first instance where AOC has publicly expressed her discontent with the new administration.

Last week, she criticized Trump’s approach to the potential TikTok ban and his interactions with tech moguls like Jeff Bezos and Mark Zuckerberg, which she claimed indicate a takeover of “every mass social media platform in the United States by the right wing.”

“So what does this mean for us?” she posed to her audience, before adding, “Well, we are on the eve of an authoritarian administration. This is what 21st century fascism is starting to look like.”

AOC’s comments have sparked a mix of support and criticism, highlighting the deep political divides in the country as the new administration implements its policies.

The debate over the legality and morality of non-compliance with executive orders continues to be a contentious issue in American politics.
