In a bold move reflecting heightened Republican oversight, the House Judiciary Committee, under Chairman Jim Jordan (R-OH), issued letters on Thursday to key federal agencies demanding the preservation and production of records.

As reported by Trending Politics News, the letters, addressed to officials in the Department of Justice (DOJ), Federal Trade Commission (FTC), and Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), allege politicized regulatory actions during the waning days of the Biden-Harris administration.

Jordan directly called out Assistant Attorney General Jonathan Kanter, accusing the DOJ’s Antitrust Division of aggressive enforcement tactics targeting American businesses in the aftermath of the 2024 presidential election.

Jordan’s letter pointedly stated: “The Antitrust Division aggressively moved to escalate its regulation of American businesses shortly following the election of President Trump.” The committee has requested documents and communications spanning November 5, 2024, to January 20, 2025, with rolling submissions required by November 29, 2024.

The FTC also came under fire in Jordan’s letters. Directed at Chair Lina Khan, Jordan’s criticism centered on the agency’s alleged partisanship and lack of cooperation in prior oversight inquiries. Jordan wrote: “The failed Biden-Harris FTC should not choose the new FTC Inspector General. This decision should be left to the incoming Trump administration.”

The committee demanded withheld documents from earlier oversight efforts and reiterated that all records must be preserved.

Additionally, the CFTC’s actions regarding political prediction markets faced scrutiny. Jordan addressed Chairman Rostin Behnam, highlighting federal court rulings that found the CFTC exceeded its statutory authority in actions against KalshiEX LLC.

“The Committee is concerned that, in overstepping its statutory authority, the Commission is attempting to regulate by enforcement and restrict the contracts offered by Kalshi simply because those contracts are disfavored by the CFTC and its staff,” Jordan noted.

In all three letters, Jordan emphasized the critical need for transparency and accountability, urging agencies to preserve all forms of communication, including encrypted messages and phone-based applications. He stressed that no documents, communications, or metadata should be destroyed or altered, whether intentionally or negligently.

This decisive action signals an intensified Republican push to expose alleged politicization under the Biden-Harris administration as President-elect Donald Trump readies his return to office. The committee’s demands reflect broader efforts to “understand the full extent of the politicization” within federal agencies and ensure accountability moving forward.
