The charges stemmed from his refusal to comply with a subpoena issued by the congressional committee investigating the events of January 6, 2021.
Bannon’s co-host on his podcast, “War Room,” Natalie Winters, announced his release on social media platform X, stating, “Steve Bannon is a Free Man,” just after 6 a.m.

Bannon, 70, left the Federal Correctional Institution in Danbury with his daughter, Maureen, as reported by CNN. Bannon’s representatives also confirmed that he would address the media later in the day with a press conference in Manhattan.
This release comes just one week before the 2024 presidential election, bringing Bannon, a significant conservative media voice and staunch Trump ally, back into the public eye at a crucial political moment.
His return follows a turbulent legal battle after he was found guilty in 2022 on two counts of contempt of Congress: one for refusing to testify and the other for withholding documents from the January 6 committee.

Despite an October 2022 conviction, Bannon’s sentence was delayed as he pursued appeals, which a federal appeals court ultimately upheld in May.
Bannon, who previously described himself as a “political prisoner,” vowed to continue appealing his convictions.

He also sharply criticized Attorney General Merrick Garland and the Justice Department, accusing them of corruption as he began his sentence.
