CNN anchor Jake Tapper was left in shock during election night coverage as his colleague John King pulled up a county-by-county map, revealing Kamala Harris’s underwhelming performance in the 2024 election.
As reported by The Gateway Pundit, Tapper and King analyzed the numbers in real-time, and the data painted a dismal picture for Harris. She failed to outperform Joe Biden’s 2020 vote count in any single county across the nation—an outcome that left Tapper visibly astonished.
As Donald Trump swept the election with a resounding victory and at least 312 electoral votes, Harris not only lost the electoral count but also came up short in the popular vote. Adding to the mystery, more than 15 million of Biden’s 2020 votes seemed to have vanished, casting further doubt on the remnants of Biden’s legacy.

John King, CNN’s expert on election data, unveiled a map to show areas where Harris might have outperformed Biden’s 2020 results.
“So you asked are there any places that the vice president is overperforming Joe Biden in 2020…so we can show you that as well. Harris overperforming 2020,” King noted as he pulled up the map to Tapper’s visible anticipation.
However, when the map zoomed in, the display was as empty as Harris’s overperformance—completely blank.
Tapper couldn’t contain his surprise. “Holy smokes! Literally nothing?” he remarked.

King, barely able to conceal his own surprise, confirmed, “Literally nothing.”
Tapper double-checked, “Literally not one county?”
King emphasized again, “By three percent or more.”
Harris’s 2024 performance left CNN and its anchors with plenty to unpack. For Tapper, King, and likely many viewers, the numbers were unexpected. While Biden had managed to pull off a so-called victory in 2020, Harris’s 2024 showing couldn’t even clear the modest threshold of a three percent gain in any county compared to Biden’s record.
The conservative base, meanwhile, found a kind of vindication in Trump’s decisive victory, making it clear that Biden-era policies weren’t appealing enough to carry Harris across the finish line.
